Icarus Point on Hammond Bay is a mere 1.0 kilometer from the Woodgrove Shopping Centre and its restaurants. Nanaimo is a thriving community of parks, beaches, charming eclectic shops, waterfront walks, marinas and myriad dining choices from casual to fine, plus all the modern conveniences needed for an enjoyable stay. These include grocery stores, gas stations, libraries, theatres, restaurants and delis, specialty food shops, spas, doctors and dentists, massage therapists and beauty salons.
The TransCanada Highway (Hwy 1) runs directly through the heart of Nanaimo and south to Victoria. The house is within a kilometer of Island highway (Hwy 19) that takes you all the way north to Port Hardy. Swimming at Icarus Point, Qualicum Beach or in the nearby Nanaimo River is a favorite summer sport. In winter, skiing is an hour and a half away at the Mount Washington resort towards the north. After-dinner fishing is within a stone’s throw all year or a two hour trip to the north takes you to world-class salmon fishing in Campbell River. Chemainus with its outdoor gallery of murals or the art shops from Nanaimo to Courtney with world famous Haida art are all close at hand. Several day trips to the nearby islands (Gabriola, Newcastle, and Protection Islands) are a short ferry ride from Nanaimo Harbour.
